A:Â No. It comes with an AC adapter but it doesn’t say anywhere that it would take batteries instead. It’s a christmas present so we haven’t opened it yet but the booklet that came with it doesn’t list batteries anywhere.

Don’t listen to those other reviews. I bought this one for myself because of my back and neck and it is not bulky, does not take up a lot of room either. I have a queen sized bed and it does not even take up half the room.
It’s very easy to assemble as I did it in under 2 minutes. The heated massage feels really good and there is a button on the side to turn off the heat if you don’t like it. All in all, I would give it a 4 star because it is not like the other one that is more expensive. I would definitely get this if your back hurts.
I needed this due to surgery and having the ability to work from home while keeping my leg elevated and this was perfect! The reading lamp also helped me do work during off hours without interrupting my wife sleeping.
