What Is OSU Tablet?
OSU tablet, also known as a digital tablet, graphic pad or a digitizing tablet, is an input device that acts as an alternative for a mouse or a point ball and can be used in conjunction with these devices or any other pointing device. It’s a simple input device, which can be comfortably put on a lap desk, that makes it infinitely easier for game lovers to play OSU games and artists to create digital art without any need of other peripheral device.
An OSU tablet is made of two components-a flat drawing surface that we commonly refer to as the pad and a programmed pen called a stylus or puck. Most of the best OSU tablets also come with a pen holder to keep the two components together. In some drawing tablets you also get a cordless mouse that you can use on the surface of the tablet as common mouse that you use won’t work with a cordless tablet. Whether you are an artist or not, you should seriously consider making use of a drawing tablet because it removes the risk of developing repetitive strain injury by offering a much better and ergonomic input method.
Features important for OSU
Means that unlike the relative tracking from your mouse you’ll be able to instantly move the cursor over to a new location. Thus saving you some precious seconds.
Smaller is better in this aspect. The less space you have to move your arm the less time is spent, the more points are earned. But at the same time finding the optimal size might be crucial for scoring those extra points for those tight corners. Where a larger active area and a higher resolution might be advised.
Parallax and response time
This matters if you’re interested in performing at the absolute limits of perfection. Some of them shave off milliseconds in response time. Minimizing parallax also means that your cursor will be as accurate as possible. With a cheaper alternative you might have to adjust to less than perfect precision. More expensive tablets will have lower parallax but they will also have larger surfaces. In this case there isn’t much wiggle room.
To recap, the most important aspects for an osu tablet are:
- Absolute tracking
- Smaller active area
- Parallax and response time of the stylus
Markets are full of OSU tablets, but to get the one that will fit your needs you need to understand how these tablets differ from one another. Depending on their size, interface, pressure sensitivity, and software, you choose an OSU tablet. We have reviewed over a hundred drawing tablets and after considering all the pros and cons picked the six best OSU tablets, that are worthy of your consideration.

This is the cheapest drawing tablet I would recommend anyone. Low cost but with the quality of the Wacom brand. This was my first drawing tablet and although, you can still draw beautiful paintings with it, I was still unhappy with the 8.25 x 6.7 size as an artist. It also lacks multi-touch.
It does not have a lot of extra functionality like pen tilt or rotation. The tablet only registers up to 1024 levels of pressure which is good enough for most artists. But if you’re doing commercial work that’s going on a billboard or TV you will need a higher pressure tablet to accommodate the higher resolution demands.
It also lacks an eraser at the end, which isn’t that important, more like a vanity perk. Since Huion offers a larger tablet with more pressure sensitivity with the only downside being a rechargeable pen and potential driver issues. I’d risk it.
Having said that, it’s perfectly fine for drawing. What’s more important to you? Security or better functionality? Suitable as a gift for a loved, but if you’re willing to go through some driver issues for a better device check out the Huion H610 below. It’s also a great option for teachers who want to make their own video study material, as it’s a great low cost device for taking highly accurate notes.
- Ideal input device for beginning digital artists
- Convert your PC into a true digital canvas with this tablet
- Pressure sensitive and battery free pen makes drawing seem more natural on your hands
- Draw pack included with the tablet that contains Art Rage Lite sketching and drawing software
- Four customizable press keys on top of the tablet
- USB and Wireless interface to connect to Mac and Windows PC
- Compact sized at 8.25×6.7 inches, fit for congested desktop areas
If you are looking for quality drawing tablet within your budget, the Wacom Intuos Draw CTL490DW is the best option
This OSU tablet is designed specifically for first time users and this is why it is kept as simple and affordable as possible. The XP-Pen G430 OSU Tablet Ultrathin Graphic Tablet has a drawing area of 4×3 inches, that is small but at the same time highly portable and makes it easier for first time users to store and handle the tablet.
There are no shortcut keys provided in this tablet, so you will not have freedom to access quick shortcuts. Anyhow the stylus of the XP-Pen G430 OSU Tablet Ultrathin Graphic Tablet is highly responsive with 2048 levels of pressure. You also get two programmable buttons in the pen that can be programmed using the tablet drivers. The stylus is tethered to the tablet and requires no battery.
- An ideal tablet for OSU game play, sketching and drawing
- Ultrathin at just 2mm thickness
- 4 Inch x 3 inch active area
- More suitable for beginners than experienced users
- Battery free stylus that allows you to draw to your heart’s content without worrying about battery replacement

There may be some features lacking in the XP-Pen G430, but as a beginners’ tablet it is one of the best OSU tablets.
Are you on the hunt for the best electronic drawing pad? You may have heard that Wacom makes the best graphics tablets, but there are other manufacturers out there with alternatives. The Turcom TS-6580B is Turcom’s entry level tablet for drawing. It has a sleek design that comes in black or gray, with the black model looking the best.
The Turcom TS-6580B looks remarkably like the Intuos 4/5, which is now called the Intuos Pro, only without the hotkeys. It is a wired tablet for graphic design that connects to your computer with a USB-A to USB-B cable. The design looks a bit cheaper than the Wacom, it is a little less polished which is to be expected of China-made products. It’s actually on the lower end of Chinese made tablets, as other brands like Huion are putting a lot more effort into the cornering the budget tablet market. In this respect, the TS-6580B is more like the Wacom Bamboo, an entry level tablet with small drawing area that has no extra hotkeys or professional functionality.
Let’s start with the packaging… The box it is packed in is a relatively inexpensive cardboard box with a simple graphic of their product. Nothing flashy, but not terrible either. As I have said in some of my other Turcom posts, it’s a box that an OEM car or PC component could come in. Very bare bones inside the box, the contents are basically the unit and nothing else. I’m not too disappointed though, you get what you pay for!
Compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and Mac OS X 10.3.5 or greater. Word annotate functions may not work on Windows 7 or greater. Currently, it has patchy or no compatibility with Windows 10.
The manufacturer says that it works with Corel Painter, CorelDraw, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Fireworks, Macromedia Flash, ComicStudio, SAI, Infinite Stratos, 3D MAX, Autodesk MAYA, Pixologic ZBrushand, and sketchbook. I got a fully functional unit when I ordered off Amazon. However, lots of other people report that they have issues getting various softwares to even recognize the pen. Among those reported are photoshop and SAI.
Nobody likes to work with bulky drawing tablets. That is why we have the GAOMON Soft Drawing Graphics Tablet in our list. It is one of the slimmest tablets on the list with a 2mm thick drawing area. The ultra thin OSU tablet is provided with an anti-slip mat on the back to avoid accidental falls. We recommend this tablet because playing games with this device is faster and smoother. You get a battery operated, 2048 pressure sensitivity pen with this tablet that gives you the freedom to create stunning digital art.
What impressed us the most is the ability to hand input data into any application. You can create data sheets in Excel or input URL into the browser using the stylus that comes with GAOMON Soft Drawing Graphics Tablet.
- Impressive ultra thin and flex design
- Suitable for games, drawing and creative projects
- Handwriting detection feature makes it possible to hand input data in excel, word, text and PowerPoint
- Approximately 10mm Reading Height
- High 4000 LPI Resolution with 200 PPS Report Rate
Compatibility is not an issue as we tested this tablet on all major Windows and Mac versions.
Although I’m yet to use the XP-Pen Star05, I have heard from several reliable sources that it is one of the best drawing tablets on the market. They praise the gadget for its supersensitive pen and screen that makes operation seamless, the highly effective wireless USB, and the battery-free stylus that doesn’t need charging.
I’ve also learnt that this unit comes with a quick-charging lithium battery that can last for as many as 14 hours. This tablet also scores highly in regard to weight, size, resolution, user friendliness, and compatibility with operating systems such as Windows and drawing software including Paint tool sia, Photoshop, and Clip studio Paint.
- Battery-free stylus for uninterrupted operation
- 6 touch-sensitive keys for creating shortcuts
- Large screen for a bigger drawing area
- Friendly design for use with either the right or left hand
My friend’s kid can never seem to get away from his trusty Amzdeal graphic tablet. After a little investigation, I discovered that it’s among the most user-friendly and best drawing tablets on the market. The light and slim device comes with a wide space that makes using it easy even for inexperienced people like my friend’s son.
This also prevents the compressive strain that may occur when working in a small space. The tablet features 8 hard and 16 soft keys, all of which can serve as shortcuts for other functions. And if this isn’t enough, you can customize the setting to suit your needs or habits.
- Advanced Pen Technology for improved performance
- 2048 pen pressure levels for improved sensitivity
- Creative power for dynamically adjusting size, brush exposure, opacity, line weight and more.
- Easy set-up for quick connection to PC or Mac via a single USB
Thinking about buying an osu! tablet?
Seeing a lot of threads with similar inquiries about the osu!tablet, aka, the Huion H420. Thought I’d just make a post so it’s a bit more organized. If you’re thinking about purchasing one, this post might help you.
I currently own the H420 tablet, which is exactly the same tablet as the osu!tablet except it’s black and doesn’t have the osu! logo. Specs wise, there are little to no differences. The only difference is that the H420 comes with more shortcut buttons. It’s my first tablet, so I can’t really compare it to other models. This is a cheap tablet; its specs and quality are definitely lower than Wacom tablets. But remember, if you’re using this for osu! only, then you probably won’t need the top quality stuff. Osu! doesn’t use pressure levels or anything special.
The tablet comes with:
- USB cable
- Drivers CD
- Extra nibs
The pen has an on and off switch and two shortcut buttons found on the rubberized grip. The buttons have a nice clicky feel. Personally, I find these shortcut buttons annoying and have accidentally triggered them during gameplay so I have disabled them.
The tablet is very lightweight (portable!). It feels cheap, but it’s actually quite sturdy. It has survived a couple 3.5 foot falls onto hardwood. The USB input is horribly placed and feels cheaply made. The USB cable comes in at the top left of the tablet so I have to bend the cable to avoid hitting my keyboard. I have to yank the USB cable out of the input with great force to get it out. I just leave the USB cable in there, I’m afraid of breaking it. The three shortcut buttons have a nice clicky feel. The tablet sits flat and has rubber feet to prevent slips.
Why would you buy an H420 tablet over an osu! tablet?
Answer: It’s significantly cheaper. You can find one on amazon for as cheap as $26 dollars shipped if you have Prime. You can get one shipped to your house in less than a week. The H420 also has 3 shortcut buttons on the tablet.
Why would you buy an osu!tablet over an H420? Answer: You’re supporting osu! The tablet looks cooler and you get a AAA battery (The H420 does not come with one).
How big is it? Dimensions: 176.6mm × 115mm × 7.5mm
Active Area: 4.17×2.34inch
I like the size of the tablet because it fits perfectly on my desk. The only downside to the tablet’s small side is that you can’t rest your whole hand on the tablet (as seen in the picture). It bothered me at first, but I got used to it.
Isn’t the active area too small?
Answer: If you’re planning to only use the tablet for osu!, the active area will be perfectly fine. You will be able to hit every note. I actually play with a bit smaller active area.
Now, if you plan on drawing, I highly recommend getting a bigger digitizer.
How heavy is the pen?
Answer: Find a wooden pencil and tape a AAA battery to the middle of it. It’s going to weigh something similar to that. The pen’s weight is not equalized throughout; it’s a bit body heavy due to the battery’s location.
How long does the pen battery last?
Answer: I don’t really know. I’ve been using the same battery for over a month and it still runs fine. I’ll update this post when it does die though.
Is there a delay?
Answer: It has a wireless pen so there has to be a delay. Now, is it a delay seen by the naked eye? No. Are you going to feel a sluggish delay? No. The pen is on point and moves as fast as I can move my hand.
The drivers included in the CD are not right. I had to download the more up to date ones from the Huion website. Also, I’m not sure if this is just a problem with my computer, but I have to keep the tablet’s CFG file open whenever I want to use the tablet.
Overall thoughts I highly recommend this tablet if you only plan on playing osu! with it. It’s cheap and gets the job done. If you have bigger plans than that, I’d recommend something with a larger active area.
Buyer Guide OSU Tablets
We mentioned above that every drawing tablet is different and you should consider all important factors before choosing any OSU tablet. Now that, we have listed the best OSU tablets, we will now discuss what you should consider in a drawing tablet.
Size is the primary consideration in deciding what kind of OSU tablet will fit your needs. If you think the larger is better, we say not necessarily. The size of the drawing tablet that is ideal for you depends on how you want to use the tablet. If you want to use it for hobby projects or at home as an input device, then best OSU tablets for you are the ones that measure 4×5 inches or 6×8 inches. Both these sizes are ideal for most general purpose use. But a larger tablet will be needed if you are a CAD designer or a professional technical illustrator. While, larger surface is important for such projects, you need to consider that as the size of the tablet increases the price also rises. Also, you need a larger arm movement on tablets with larger surface which is in oppose to small tablets that let you minimize the arm motion.
If you are an artist who is used to working with larger strokes on a drawing board or canvas, a larger OSU tablet will feel a lot less alienating to you. When you look at the size specification remember that the mentioned size is for the input area only, the actual size of the can be up to 4” larger due to casing around the screen. This is a serious consideration to make as some tablets can easily have a footprint as big as that of a desktop. What it means is the actual space a tablet will need can be much larger than it is sized at.
For digital artists, it is important to consider that aspect of the monitor they work on. Usually the best OSU tablets have a 4:3 aspect ratio that matches the aspect ratio of most traditional computer monitors. Graphics tablets that are sized 9” by 12”, 6” by 8” or 4” by 5” support 4:3 aspect ratio. However, since late 2000s, computer manufactures have started offering widescreen aspect ratio monitors. The proliferation of these monitors means that if you are used to working with widescreen monitors, you will need a drawing tablet that supports widescreen aspect ratio. It’s the responsibility of the tablet software to map aspect ratios between the monitor and the tablet. You need to check beforehand, what aspect ratio your drawing tablet supports. Wacom manufactures the best OSU tablets that support the wide-format.
Once you lock on a screen size and the format the drawing tablet supports, next is to consider how easily you can connect your OSU tablet to your PC. Most drawing tablets have a USB connectivity interface that makes it easier to connect them to multiple devices. USB connection also means that you can take the tablet off the table on the go. In most cases, you won’t require to consider the interface in a drawing tablet, if you have a modern day PC or laptop. However, if you an old computer that does not support USB, you will need an OSU tablet with a serial interface. It is not advisable to buy a tablet with serial connection, but if you can’t invest in a new PC, just make sure your tablet does not conflict with other devices like a serial mouse or a serial modem. Additionally, a USB drawing tablet gets its power from the computer it is connected to, but with serial tablets you will need to provide an external power supply source. Therefore, make sure you have an extra power outlet to connect to near your desk.
Another option to connect modern day OSU tablets with other devices is using Bluetooth. If you want to keep the connection between your computer and drawing tablet wireless, the Bluetooth is the best technology for this purpose. Wacom is one of the few brands that manufacture drawing tablets that can connect to computers over a Bluetooth protocol.
Pen/Stylus and Other Accessories
There is not much use of a drawing tablet without a comfortable pen or stylus. If the stylus or pen you get with your OSU tablet does not feel natural to use, it is advisable to invest in a quality stylus that is compatible with your drawing tablet. A stylus can be free or tethered to your drawing tablet. Most free styluses are battery operated, which means you will need to replace batteries from time to time and battery also makes the pen feel heavier. Misplacing is another concern with free pens. On the other hand, a tethered stylus will be less likely to get lost, but you need to consider a few things. If you buy an OSU tablet that has tethered stylus, choose the one that gives you the freedom to connect the pen to both sides of the tablet.
Many best OSU tablets come with pens that have buttons built into them and there are some with an erasing end. For a digital artist such pens are excellent tools, as they give you the freedom to program the buttons to function as you like, for instance as a right click or a double click. The stylus with a erasing end offer you the option to activate the eraser tool in a graphics software or delete an object with a swipe. Both these functionalities are a must have in a drawing tool stylus.
With some OSU tablets you will also have the option to choose other pointing tools that can be programmed independently. You can customize the function of these pointing tools by connecting them to the drawing tablet and the device will automatically detect the tool and use your preferred customization as the function of the pointing tool.
To control the functions like line thickness, color and transparency you get the pressure sensitivity option in drawing tablet. The best OSU tablets have pressure levels of 256, 512 or 1024. Pressure level indicates the sensitivity of the tablets towards pressure. Higher the pressure sensitivity the more responsive your drawing tablet will be. You can set the pressure sensitivity to give you a more natural feeling while using the tablet.
With the best OSU tablets you will get driver as well as bundled software.
Driver software is necessary to ensure that the OSU tablet works with the operating system on your laptop or PC. While buying a drawing tablet you need to consider that what kind of features the driver software of the tablet has to offer. Higher priced OSU tablets have drive software that offers many advanced capabilities. Driver software can allow you to control multiple aspects like the ability to map certain portions of the drawing tablet to areas on the screen, customize tools, program menu strips and tilt sensitivity.
Bundled software is different than the driver software in that it has no role in ensuring compatibility of the tablet to the OS, but it adds more value to the tablet. The best OSU tablets have bundled software like the Corel Painter Essentials and Adobe Photoshop Elements that offer drawing and enhancement tools to take more advantage of the drawing tablet. There are some tablets that are bundled with handwriting recognition software that make it easy to convert handwritten text into digital prints.
Best OSU tablets can get expensive, but it’s the quality and reliability that you are paying for. However, with increasing competition in the drawing tablet community, the prices of these devices are trembling down. Still an expensive OSU tablet will have more professional features as compared to cheaper alternatives.
